Over 45 Years of Practical Experience
My approach to dogs isn’t derived from textbook theories or viral internet clips. It is shaped by more than four decades of living with, training, and handling retriever breeds, as well as helping countless ordinary owners successfully train their own dogs.
With a professional background rooted in education and training, my focus has never been simply about “fixing” a dog. My passion lies in helping owners develop the clarity, patience, and skills they need to understand the dog sitting right in front of them.
Over the years, this philosophy culminated in the publication of my four standalone educational resources: the Calm Canine Companion Book Series, which guides owners step-by-step through the progressive stages of Preparation, Learning, Skills, and Behaviour.

While this website serves owners of all breeds, ages, and backgrounds, my extensive experience with retrievers and gundog-style training naturally forms the character of this site.
I believe that many of the most frustrating behavioral challenges—such as persistent ball obsession, lunging on the lead, over-excitement outdoors, or an inability to settle at home—are rarely signs of a “bad” or disobedient dog.
More often than not, they are simply natural canine instincts that have not yet been given a structured, satisfying outlet. Rather than trying to forcefully suppress these instincts, a more effective and humane approach is to guide them constructively. When you work with your dog’s natural abilities, cooperation follows naturally.
